Usability evaluation for PAWS Montclair
Improving the usability for a non-profit organization
UX Research, Usability Evaluation Methods
2023

Context
The Pound Animal Welfare Society of Montclair (PAWS Montclair) is a non-profit animal rescue serving Montclair, NJ, and nearby communities. Their website supports adopters, pet owners, advocates, and donors seeking to adopt, volunteer, or contribute. My team and I conducted a summative usability evaluation to uncover challenges new users face when completing key tasks. The findings revealed opportunities to help improve usability, navigation, and content, helping PAWS better connect with its community and support more animals.
My Contributions
I led the preliminary research for this project. I conducted the heuristic evaluation and cognitive walkthrough. Additionally, I led the research planning, identified key task scenarios, and determined recruitment criteria. I conducted 2 moderated usability tests. I collaborated with my team to help analyze our findings and prescribe design recommendations to help improve the website. I advocated for three key design recommendations: developing a standardized design system, streamlining important content for clarity, and reorganizing the site’s information architecture.
